To insure a smooth inventory, please review the online inventory help in Destiny
as well as the following instructions before you begin your inventory. These instructions address specific known issues concerning the Dolphin Scanner
and the Dolphin File Transfer utility. |
|
1. Confirm that the Scan Utility software is installed on the Dolphin Scanner and not the Circulation Plus software.
When the Scan Utility is installed properly, you will see this screen on the Dolphin. Make sure that the screen
says "Press F1 for Manual Entry". If not, the Scan Utility software will need to be re-installed. Follow the link at the bottom of the page for instructions on how to install this software.
2. Make sure that the Dolphin File Transfer utility, with this icon, is installed on your computer and
confirm the location where files will be transferred to from the Dolphin scanner.
Files transferred with the Dolphin File Transfer utility can be saved anywhere on the hard drive, but
the default file location is C:\Program Files\Dolphin File Transfer\xfer\.
This file location can be confirmed by clicking on the Configuration button on the main Dolphin File Transfer utility
window and then clicking on the Folders tab in the following screen.
Note: After each download, the program automatically backs up the latest download. The most current file is called
Scan.log and the backup files are called Scan.Log.Bak0, Scan.Log.Bak1 and so on. The higher the number,
the older the file is. However, it will only save the last 10 files. To maintain a complete set of inventory files,
it is recommended that either the contents of each Scan log file is copied into another file, or the files are moved to another
directory and renamed to include the upload date and/or the section scanned.
3. Once transferred,
it will be necessary to locate the latest transferred file (Scan.Log) through the Destiny Inventory screen. Once located,
upload it to mark your books accounted for. Make sure to keep track of the transfer location for the Scan.Log file.
If unsure where the file was saved, locate it as mentioned in step 2 above.
4. Once downloaded to the computer, the files may not show the correct creation dates and may show the same date for each file.
This may make it difficult to locate a specific file. It is recommended that after the file has been
uploaded, the date and/or the book section, should be added to the file name in the event you may need to
refer to it later. For example, Scanlog3_20_05 or Scanlog_92_3_20_05, and so forth.
Note: The Scan log files can always be opened with a text editor to review the barcodes scanned. This may be
necessary if there is a question of the file's contents.
